5-Minute Business School — Tools Edition — Book Notes
5-Minute Business School — Tools Edition¶
An extension of the core 5-Minute Business School series, this volume focuses on applying tools — both analytical frameworks like SWOT and 5 Whys, and physical tools like tablets and e-readers.
SWOT extended:
- SO — Leverage strengths to capitalize on opportunities; pursue a growth strategy.
- ST — Use strengths to counter threats; find diverse ways to project your advantages.
- WO — Suppression mode; pivot strategy to sidestep weaknesses or eliminate them through improvement.
- WT — Vulnerable position; adopt a defensive strategy.
5 Whys: When applying the questioning technique, ask the right question about the problem, and distinguish between root causes and excuses.
In meetings: Moderate use of visuals helps attendees build a shared understanding. Useful formats include pros/cons charts, four-quadrant matrices, distribution charts, Gantt charts (timeline + tasks), flowcharts, timeline histories, and fishbone diagrams.
A line I liked: Creating value used to mean making a product; now it means making a product well. #business
